Bled: Evident progress of Montenegro and unambiguous support of EU Member States

MEPThe progress Montenegro is making in the reform processes and advancement towards the EU membership is evident.

The EU and its Member States value the work and individual results and Montenegro can count on continued support in the negotiating process, was stated in the talks that Minister of European Affairs Aleksandar Andrija Pejović held during the second day of participation at the Bled Strategic Forum with the government representatives of EU Member States and the USA. 

Minister informed the collocutors about the results achieved by Montenegro in the negotiating process, as well as about the plans for successful continuation of work on concluding the legislative and institutional reforms, and in particular on achieving measurable results in the chapters. He noted that a lot of work is ahead of Montenegro, but also stated his firm belief that Montenegrin society will efficiently implement the last phase of the negotiating process and thus prepare in a quality manner for the full membership in the EU.   

At the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Marija Pejčinović Burić the topics included current and planned activities and the pace of work on opening the remaining, and gradual closing of all negotiating chapters. The views were exchanged on the scope of cooperation hitherto, and further expert and technical support of Croatia to the negotiating process of Montenegro were agreed upon.

Situation in the EU, enlargement policy and Montenegro`s negotiating process were some of the topics of conversation with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade  Péter Szijjártó.  Minister Szijjártó congratulated on results achieved and indicated full support of his country to further progress towards the EU membership. 

MEPMinister Pejović also met with Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Witold Sobków and spoke about the activities planned with a view to rounding up the reform processes. In that context, they exchanged opinions on the upcoming obligations and needs and also agreed on specific forms and fields of cooperation. 

During the Bled Strategic Forum, Minister Pejović met with Hoyt Brian Yee, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. They exchanged opinions on the progress achieved, particularly in the field of rule of law, further obligations in the process of accession to the EU, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries. Hoyt Brian Yee congratulated on NATO membership and indicated that it represented contribution to stability of the region. He also reiterated full support of the USA to reforms aimed at achievement of economic growth and overall development, as well as improvement of quality of lives of citizens.
